Role & contribution

Role & contribution

I worked closely with the product, engineering and marketing teams to lead the end-to-end design of this product. My key responsibilities included user research, competitor analysis, visual design, prototyping & conducting multiple testing sessions both in-house and with external users to refine user flows.

I also created a demo for the Moonshot by TechCabal event in October 2024 and maintained ongoing collaboration with the mobile & QA engineers to ensure a smooth product launch in November 2025.

Identifying the Activation Gap

Identifying the Activation Gap

While planning our H2 product roadmap in 2024, we identified a critical gap in user activation. Sign-ups and onboarding were strong, but most users stalled there. They weren’t taking the next step to save or invest, even with our low fees and competitive interest rates. After multiple cross-functional brainstorming sessions with product, engineering, marketing, client services, portfolio management, and other key stakeholders, we formed a key hypothesis that users weren’t taking action because they lacked the financial knowledge and confidence to do so.

To bridge this gap and support Zedcrest Wealth’s mission to become Nigeria’s leading financial services platform, we set out to build the Zedcrest Wealth Academy, a learning experience designed to empower users to make smarter financial decisions.

Meeting Users Where They Are

Meeting Users Where They Are

To make learning feel more approachable and engaging, I leaned into a visual, gamified experience that incorporated rewards, level progression and leaderboards to keep users inspired. Since financial literacy varies from person to person, I incorporated three knowledge tiers and explored onboarding paths that let users self-select and take a brief assessment to begin their journey at the most relevant level.

After the brief assessment and based on how the user performed, they can access their dashboard and begin learning on the suggested module or start from the very beginning if they prefer.

The Content Style

The Content Style

We wanted the lesson content to feel simple, clear, and easy to digest, so we leaned into a storytelling tone that allowed us to break these complex financial topics in a way that all users could comprehend, regardless of the financial knowledge level they fell under.

I experimented with designing both vertical and horizontal scrolling lesson formats.

I experimented with designing both vertical and horizontal scrolling lesson formats.

After running an A/B test and reviewing user feedback, the horizontal scroll format emerged as the option that delivered a smoother, more engaging learning experience. 73% of users who participated in the test found the horizontal scroll format easier to digest, and had a better sense of knowing how long the lesson was compared to the never-ending vertical scroll, so pushing that option to the development stage was a no-brainer.

The Lesson Quiz & Rewards

The Lesson Quiz & Rewards

Our approach went beyond delivering financial education. Each lesson ended with a knowledge check that tested users’ understanding, and rewards were tied to their performance. This encouraged engagement and helped confirm that key concepts were fully grasped.

From Prototype to Product

From Prototype to Product

Following extensive iteration and close coordination with engineering, we ran a final usability study with external users in August 2025. The insights gathered informed several refinements, supporting a successful launch of the Zedcrest Wealth Academy in November 2025. With the product newly released, it is still early to report quantitative results or engagement metrics. However, initial public feedback has been positive, and the Academy remains an active, evolving project as we collect data and plan future enhancements.
